From May 28 to 30, 2026, atInstitut Pasteur, the otoneurology community will gather for the International Society of Otoneurology (SIO) Congress. Through numerous presentations, clinicians and researchers from the reConnect Institute will share their expertise and findings to accelerate research and innovation in the field of cochleovestibular disorders. This event is designed to be resolutely multidisciplinary—an essential approach for combining expertise and refining diagnoses in the face of the complexity of these conditions.
Dr. Charlotte Hautefort, the event organizer, brought together experts from partner institutions such as the Clinique de l’Oreille (Paris), Assistance Publique–Hôpitaux de Paris, the VERTICO ENT Rare Diseases Center, the SENSGENE and FAI2R healthcare networks, and the Paris Vestibular Center of Excellence.

Clinicians and researchers from the reConnect Institute will be heavily involved throughout the conference, participating in a variety of activities—including moderating sessions, presenting scientific papers, and leading specialized workshops—that showcase the breadth and interdisciplinary nature of their expertise:
Dr. Alain Londero will moderate the first morning of the conference.
Prof. Claire Paquet, Scientific Director of IHU reConnect, will open the conference with a plenary session titled “When the Ear Speaks to the Brain: Hearing and Cognition, ” exploring the links between auditory functions and cognition at the intersection of several key areas of research in otoneurology.

Dr. Charlotte Hautefort, Dr. Michel Toupet, Dr. Christian Van Nechel, and Dr. Ulla Duquesne will speak on the topic: “Functional Disorders and ENT: When Clinical Practice Presents Challenges”
Paul Avan and Grégory Gerenton will lead a hands-on workshop: “Multifrequency Tympanometry and Echodia: What It Really Means”
Crystel Bonnet will lead a workshop on genetics: “Genetics and the inner ear: for whom, when, and why?”
Dr. Michaël Eliezer and Dr. Charlotte Hautefort will present: “Imaging of the inner ear: what we can see today… and couldn’t see yesterday”
To give you a glimpse of the program, this final presentation will highlight major advances in inner ear imaging. Long limited to a morphological approach, MRI now allows for detailed analysis of the labyrinthine compartments, thereby improving our understanding of conditions such as Ménière’s disease.
Thanks to high-resolution 3T imaging, millimeter-scale structures such as the saccule and the semicircular canals can be visualized with unprecedented precision, enabling a better correlation between imaging findings and clinical symptoms. More recently, the integration of artificial intelligence has paved the way for automated quantification of endolymphatic volumes.
These advances reinforce the role of MRI as a key diagnostic tool for cochleovestibular disorders. As a result, modern imaging no longer merely visualizes the anatomy; it now explores the pathophysiology of the inner ear.
