Sabrina Mechaussier, winner of the L'Oréal-UNESCO For Women in Science Award

Sabrina Mechaussier, an Inserm researcher of the reConnect Institute at the Hearing Institute, has been awarded the L'Oréal-UNESCO For Women in Science Young Talent Award 2025. Her work within the Plasticity of Central Auditory Circuits team, led by Nicolas Michalski, focuses on characterizing the mechanisms linked to genetic form of deafness, in order to preserve hearing faculties.

“My research aim to make the development therapeutic strategies to slow and eventually halt the degeneration of the auditory nerve, particularly for genetic forms of audirtory neupathies and to provide complementary to cochlear implants. That is to say, a hearing aid that directly stimulates the auditory nerve or the development of gene therapy," she explains. “The freedom to explore science knowledge in the academic field allows me to showcase my creativity.” (excerpt from the official L'Oréal-UNESCO press kit)


Already recognized by her peers, Sabrina was honored in 2020 at the anual European meeting of genetic research.
